The Bittersweet Tale of Mr. Fluffers

Mr. Fluffers was a member of the Rutgers feral cat community for at least three years. About seven months ago, one of our volunteers noticed that Mr. Fluffers was becoming more accustomed to humans. The volunteer began attempting to socialize him in hopes of one day getting him off of the New Brunswick streets and into a loving home. Over six months, Mr. Fluffers would wait for the volunteer in the middle of the parking lot and eagerly approach as soon as they arrived, looking for wet food. As he grew more trusting, he started eating right out of the volunteer's hand and even allowed occasional petting. Unfortunately, Mr. Fluffers' health took a sudden turn for the worse, and despite our efforts, we were unable to get him to a vet before he passed away.

His story is a poignant reminder of the harsh realities and heartbreak that sometimes accompany cat rescue. We strive to save and improve the lives of as many cats as possible, but there are moments of deep sadness when, despite all our efforts, we cannot save them all. Mr. Fluffers' memory lives on in the love and dedication we pour into every rescue, reminding us why we continue this important work.
